La historia abriga
An invented narrative and exhibition of a past event, public or private, which is protected because it is worthy of memory, in which domestic textiles are used, exploring the idea of storage, care and conservation of textiles, as a metaphor for the revaluation of invisible domestic work. The textile material has been donated by Las Kellys, a collective that fights against the precariousness of the employment of housekeepers. The user's footprint is emphasised through the transparency of the wrappings, which are made from plastic waste. At the same time, there are small portable jewels made of fabric but, in this case, wrapped with new biodegradable materials, so that visitors can wear them and participate in the work. A route is proposed as a ‘vacant forest’ that can be inhabited and invites reflection. La historia abriga is a project that started in 2018 from the exploration with discarded fabrics used in the domestic environment, stained, dirty, broken, considered rubbish, from the donations of people who work in the domestic environment, mostly women, and the collection of these rags, the idea of care is worked on. With found plastics, transparent wrappings are generated, glazes through which one can recognise working tools, the traces of invisible work. In 2023, a collaboration with the Barcelona maids' union Las Kellys begins, adding their donations of textiles used in their daily work. The installation is conceived as a forest of value, inviting reflection and supporting their struggle for the improvement of working conditions in the sector. On the table, a journey through the process of creation until arriving at small portable pieces in the form of contemporary jewellery, but this time no longer wrapped in plastic but in biodegradable sheets. This forest is intended to be a reflective space. Patriarchal oppression, ecological oppression, oppressions of capitalist domination. The footprint on the fabric as a metaphor for action and work done. Sheltering, caring as the fundamental axis for transforming realities and preserving life.
